I have covered a huge distance since my last update so I must first apologise to everyone that has been checking in to see where I have got to!
I am now sitting in the very relaxing atmosphere of Ave Fenix, a private albergue run by a man named Jesus. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful, as with everywhere else along the Camino! I left this morning from Ponferrada having spent the night at the Municipal albergue, San Nicolás de Flüe, situated in the grounds of the Convento del Carmen.
I walked today with a man named Christian who is from Austria. We started on the same day in St Jean Pied de Port and have seen each other several times to say hello but today was the first time we walked together. I enjoyed his company and having both served in the military for our country we had a lot in common and a lot to tease each other about!
I won’t go right back trying to write about each individual days walk and where I stayed as I will be here forever writing it and you will be here falling asleep reading it! I will just say that I have had some ups and downs, but on the whole have been enjoying my journey. I have had a few days recently where I have really struggled with missing my children and have considered throwing in the towel and flying home. But I am so close to the end and everyone is supportive and encouraging me to carry on so I am doing just that! I am feeling much more positive now and have had some fantastic days walking recently, really enjoyable! I gave the boots one last try with new insoles but they ruined my feet again within 5kms so I am now walking the whole time in sandals with no problems whatsoever!
I am a bit rushed for time so am going to have to end there I’m afraid but to all family and friends that might be reading, please know that I am safe and well and am enjoying my adventure. I have met some fantastic people and the nearer I get to the end the more I want it to carry on and never end!
I will finish up now with some pictures from the last six days…
