Christian and I met for breakfast this morning in a restaurant in O’Cebreiro before we began walking for the day. It was packed full of hungry pilgrims who had the same idea but were clever enough to get there at 6am, we turned up at 7am! After a bit of a wait to get served we had some breakfast and were pretty much the last to leave town, heading of into the mountains at 8am.
It was amazing, the clouds were below us with the tops of mountains poking through almost like islands in the sea. It was a beautiful sight but I struggled to get a good picture of it with my compact point and shoot…
We had a fantastic day today, keeping up a fast pace and catching up and passing most of the pilgrims that left way before us. It’s not a race of course, but it does feel good to pass people! We stopped at Hospital de la Condesa for coffee and energy food and Christian made friends with an hungry Chicken!
Soon after we were back on our way, walking all the way to Biduedo before our next stop for a beer and sandwich. The walk was enjoyable and the views today were fantastic. We were feeling so good that we actually ran a lot of today’s route, mostly on the downhill sections as we have been finding it easier to run down. We did get some very funny looks and comments but it puts a lot less pressure on your knees as you’re not resisting against the decline.
We reached Triacastela at just gone 2pm and checked into a nice albergue which is very clean and has free wifi. The name of the albergue is Aitzenea and I recommend it if you are planning on staying in this town. I have taken a shower and am now laying on my bunk writing my blog while sipping a cold lemonade, bliss!! Later on we are going to head into town to get a meal and perhaps a few glasses of wine…!
