There’s a few days unaccounted for on my blog I’m afraid! No wifi access and being so tired has meant that I haven’t bothered writing anything… I’ve had a tough few days with my injured leg and am now separated from my cousin Matt. He left me behind yesterday when I decided to take a days rest, but then changed my mind around an hour and a half after everyone had left and decided to try to follow on and catch up. Going through Pamplona city during the running of the bulls was possibly the most frightening experience of my life, and trust me, I’ve had a few! There were thousands of drunks everywhere all wearing the same and all shouting! The streets, in fact no, the whole city, stank of wine and beer! It was amazing, there was broken glass about a quarter of and inch deep through all of the streets! One man stopped me to ask if I was walking to Santiago and started telling his friends what strong legs I must have… He seemed to enjoy feeling my thighs so I was glad to get away from him, then further down the street another man asked me if I could speak Spanish as he wanted to buy some marijuana from me!! Really, do I look that bad!?
I eventually got through the city and walked up the hill out of town where I booked into a small albergue run by the church. After assessing my situation though I decided to move on and took transport further along to Estella and booked into an hotel for the night. I didn’t want to cheat but wanted some privacy and rest with my injury. I have spent the day here and have now booked into another church run albergue for the night. I intend on leaving at around 3am to get ahead of the hundreds of fit pilgrims who will otherwise take up all of the rooms at the next stop because my leg is really slowing me down.
There is a lot missing from this blog and I apologise for another rushed post but I am using wifi in a bar and don’t want to be here too long. I will try to get in the habit of writing each night and then uploading all together when I find Internet access…
Some photos to make up for it though…!
